full name: Olivier Berlioz Rayce Chaton
nicknames: Oli, Ray or Rayce - Louis by his sister...when she was younger she couldn't pronounce olivier..and the closest she got to pronouncing ber-le-lous..was louis.
meaning of name: I have always been fond of the name Olivier and I wanted to keep true to the characters French roots. The name Berlioz actually comes from a Hector Berlioz. He was a French romantic composer. He specified huge orchestral forces for some of his works; as a conductor, he performed several concerts with more than 1,000 musicians. That ties into Olivier's career as well. Then lastly his well...last name. Rayce is also a common French name. I wanted something that could have a nickname, so I stuck to that name. Chaton means 'kitten' in French, and that's his last name because his character was a kitten raised in France.

* - - - the fairest of them all

Olivier is the darkest of the Chaton family, feature wise. He has dark brown hair and matching dark brown eyes. He is around the same complexion as his sister Marie. Light skinned with a hint of color. His lips stand out because of their reddish color, contrasting nicely with the tone of his face. Oli has shot up in height over his high school years. His sister used to be taller then him, but now he is standing at the satisfying height of 6'2". His nose is the same as his sister and their mother. Very straight down the face and pointed at the tip. He has a normal size forehead, although his brother swears that it is bigger then normal. His mother tells him that his brother is jealous that he is so smart...so instead of calling him intelligent...his brother calls him five head. Oli has lush hair that he usually keeps short and neat. At one point when he got into rock music...he grew it out long and his sister was having heart attacks everytime she would see him. His mother threatened to cut it as he was sleeping...so he never left it long again.

One thing no one can persuade him to do is to always keep his beard shaved off. Sometimes he likes to show some facial hair. He thinks that it makes him look rugged and somewhat grungy. So at times Oli has a bit of facial hair around his chin, but never a mustache. He thinks a mustache would make him look like the grumpy old french men playing chess outside in the park. Olivier has a narrow face, sunken in at the cheeks to come down into a pointed chin..like a sharper version of an oval face. Oli usually gets the comment of having an old fashion look to him. Some say its the side burns and others say its the way that he dresses. Overall, he would fit in nicely on the cover of a romance novel in some library.

Then again, Ray does like to dress as if he were born in a different time. He likes his slacks..polo shirts and suspenders. He often looks like he should belong in the retro times. He dresses just like Buddy Holly and even has the glasses to go along with it. It fits him very well, because his body isn't built nor scrawny. He is healthy and athletic enough to have a substantial body. You can see that he has abs, but they aren't chiseled to perfection like underwear models. He does however have a nice muscle tone on his arms and strong pectoral muscles. Most of his muscle are in his arms though, just as every musicians is.

* - - - look deep inside

Its no secret that Berlioz is the middle man when it comes to his siblings. He isn't as troublesome as his older brother and not as much as a perfectionist as his sister. Ray sails between the middle. He is very nice and funny in many ways. He likes to keep the situations he faces light and simple. If there is a bad moment, then he will try to lighten it up with a bit of humor. Oli is very subtle with everything he does. Its never too little or too much when it comes to Oli. He isn't stuck up like his sister tends to be. Instead he is welcoming towards all types of people and all things. All he wants to do is experience as much as he can and make his mother proud of him, while having fun of course. If there is one thing Oli loves, its to have fun. He can party, although he tends to keep that mellow. He isn't like his older brother, who is quick to be some type of bad ass and stand out in the crowd. Oli doesn't mind if he is part of the crowd, as long as he is having fun.

The only time you can catch him arguing is if its towards competition. Olivier likes to be the better one, especially when it comes to music. So its natural in him to be competitive and strive to be the best, and usually he is. Its no secret that in the music world, he was a child prodigy. Now however, he wants to take things slow and enjoy his music. Once you stop enjoying it and it becomes merely a job, then that's when life as you know it stop for Oli. When it comes to his mother, he tries to impress her as much as he can. His sister is usually jealous of him and his brother is always making it into a joke. When he jokes to make his point, you'll know it...he gets a cocky look in his eyes and he will joke around with what he thinks is the truth. That's only when he is trying to get back at someone.

Other then that, Olivier is polite and sweet. He is also a romantic at heart, but doesn't like to admit it to anyone but who he is romancing. Out of his siblings he is the more level headed intelligent one. He can be a bit of a show off when it comes to his intelligence and talent. He only bumps heads with those that take everything as a joke. He's a mama's boy at heart though. He loves playing polo, tennis, and football. His life really revolves around music though. He loves that he gets to go anywhere and jam with other musicians. Ray could be anything he wants really, he's got a mind for many good jobs...but rather one that he really likes. His idea of a good time is..talking over some food at a fancy restaurant and then getting down in the pits at a rock concert. He's not all classical music tight end surroundings..he likes the grungy part of music.

Olivier was the last child to be born of Antoinette Chaton-Redevance, a New York socialite, and her father was Gregory Redevance, the heir to the Redevance Hotel chain. He was born on december 11th, the day his mothers favorite composer was born. He is the youngest of three. His brother being the first born and his sister Alaina just a year before him. Olivier was a happy baby boy that showed a love for music, that Antoinette was sure she had brought upon him. She would always tell him that when he was in the womb, she would play classical music and such, placing the ear phone right over her stomach. The attachment between Olivier and his mothers was strong from the very beginning. Why? Well his father was never really around for him to grow any sort of attachment for the man. With his mother around...he never craved it either.

Growing up, Olivier was given toy instruments and would be given vocal classes by his mother. All of the Chaton children were made to each have time with the arts. Alaina was mostly towards singing, his older brother was the painter and he was the musician...although he did like joining in on the singing as well. Having other siblings was challenging for Olivier though. He would get jealous when Alaina would be with their mother through all her debutant classes and he would have to wait. Alaina would walk around like a princess like everything was about her and Olivier would try to put her in her place. Mostly, this was the influence of his older brother rubbing off on him. Olivier would stop right away..as soon as his mother would say so though. That's when the Chaton boys were made to play sports, to relieve that energy they were taking out on their sister. It was a good idea...but he and his older brother would still bully Alaina..even if she was older then Oli.

By the time that Olivier was 10, he had created a full Rhapsody that was exhibited in France for his grandmothers annual banquet. It was that day that set him off into the music world. He was known all over France. He began to receive home schooling instead, so that his mother could feed his gift rather then suppress it like school does. Most of Olivier's time was spent practicing and composing. By the age of 12 he guest preformed with a group of talented well known artists for the save the music foundation in New York. It was also at this age that he felt a new love, towards rock music. It wasn't very long until Olivier learned how to play the guitar, being that both the piano and guitar are string instruments. His mother wasn't too excited about the guitar, but she wasn't going to stop him from pursuing something he loved. By the age of 15 Olivier had met a group of boys that were looking for someone that can play the piano/keyboard and they asked him to join their band.

Olivier performed with his band at Alaina's debutant ball and he thought that this would be great for both of them. Mostly because their father was supposed to be there and he would see all there hard work unfolded before him. There was a moment when Olivier was on the stage with his band and Alaina was walking down with her date for the ball, the dance of the debutant tradition. When they both looked around, noticing the only people of their family watching was their mother and grandmother. The person to tell them what happened was not their mother, but their grandmother. Antoinette was too heartbroken to talk to her children about what had happened, she had to remain strong for them. Olivier took the oppertunity to tour with his band as a way out of the mess. They were now in the tabloids and all over the internet. New's traveled fast, but at least he wouldn't have to deal with it when all the hype was focused on his band.

The lesson he learned from his fathers mistakes was to never treat a woman like that. He took this lesson everywhere with him and instead of having someone..he had many short lived yet wonderful relationships. None of them could be permanent of course, not when you are touring. When he came back home, it was time for college. Olivier had gotten accepted letters to all the best schools. Harvard, Oxford, Princeton, Yale and Brown...The only reason he thought he would go to Brown was to be around his sister. Which when you look at it isn't a good reason. Instead, Olivier took time off..to go to college. It was his mothers wishes that he take up music at Harvard, and so he did. He only did two years and two months for music. Olivier missed being out on stage and got back together with his band. This time they came back with a hit record and he wasn't the keyboard man...He was the secondary vocals and guitar.

He was living his dream, he could be greater with his intellectual mind..but he rather do something that he really enjoyed. Don't get confused though, Oli always stayed very close to his family at heart. When Alaina moved to North Carolina..he took time to help her move her things over there and he even has a spare room at her place when he is in town. There was always his mother calling him up to go visit her and make sure she hasn't turned into a lesbian, because of the whole swearing off men bit. Olivier is nomadic in the sense that he never stays put to settle down. He has a place in London, Germany, New York, California...then there was always the hotel suit his father would give him complimentary. That he always trashed with his band mates as a reminder towards how much of an asshole he is and how much his kids hate him.

Recently, Olivier has been keeping close to North Carolina because of his sister. His band is taking some time off from touring and trying to regain their strengths...write some songs..collaborate ideas when ever they can. They had made enough of a name for themselves to take that luxury of RR. His sister was pregnant after all and he wanted to be their for her. Then it was all about the wedding mess and him knowing his sister was lying to Victor...and then his mother talking about why he hasn't settled down with a young lady yet. Honestly, after what Alaina did to Victor...he really didn't even want to think about a relationship with a woman. For the meantime, he is just laying low with Alaina...since he can't really walk in the street anywhere else without being bombarded. Walten City is a small town that he feels comfortable and safe from ever dealing with wondering if women are with him for money, fame..or just him.

* - - - connect the dots

Penn and Berlioz are both dark haired. For some reason I look at Penn and I think that I have never seen someone with darker features then him. I also looked at a few things that had the actor in it and I thought that he held the personality that Berlioz actually has. Even though Penn's works have never put him in the position of being a musician...they have been with him being very smart and always landing somewhere in the middle. His casting directors must have picked him because not only did he look the part but he could act it, so it was exactly the reason I agreed to keep it towards Katie's requests. His pictures show that sense of being the middle man in my opinion, with a hint of mischief.

The character I have created here is pretty much as close as you get to Berlioz. I made sure to include everything in his personality and even though his history is a tad bit twisted around, it still rings true to his Disney equivalent. All the way down to only having one mother and being the youngest out of his siblings...which are one older male and one older female. Berlioz played the piano all through out the movie, and played it very well. He even sung a bit, so I added that into his personality and history. I also made sure to make it obvious that he seeks approval from his mother, even if that means trying to block his sister out of the way..showing his more competitive side.
