This application is finished victor lee boggs * - - - starting out full name: Victor Lee Boggs. nicknames: He occasional is called Vic, which he doesn't really care for unless the person is close to him--and there aren't many who are. meaning of name: I was going to choose Randall for his first name, then eventually decided against it because I wanted something a bit different, to separate him in my mind from the movie character. So, I decided on Victor due to the irony the name holds. Victor means 'winner' and 'conqueror', but the thing is Victor always comes in second place. Lee, his middle name, comes from one of the directors of the film. His last name Boggs is something he shares with the animated character, I wanted to keep that the same. age: Twenty-nine. birthday: November 21st. occupation: Lobbyist for Walten Power Plant canon: Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc.
* - - - the fairest of them allVictor is just an average and ordinary looking man, who can blend right into a crowd with ease if he so chooses. He's been around long enough to know how to dress, depending on what type of attention he's currently seeking, if any. His hair is something that can always be considered on the short side of things, but it does vary in length and hairstyles. The shortest Vic's dark brown hair gets is buzzed down close to his head, not to the point where he's bald, but has no more then a centimeter of hair. On the other end of the spectrum, he sometimes grows it out so that it's a few inches in length, which he normally either brushes back out of his face, lets it hang down in his eyes, or sometimes even parts it into a comb-over type hairstyle. His looks vary often and so it's never really a set deal when it comes to his hair or style, which is the same case for his facial hair as well. Sometimes he has a short beard and mustache, sometimes he's cleanly shaven. It all depends on what impression he is trying to make, something that Victor constantly keeps in mind.
His face is something that is easily forgettable upon first glance, but if looked at closely, it certainly has character. Victor has very thick eyebrows, something that he's always disliked. He's used to them now that he's older, but he used to get teased as a child for having a 'bushy brows' and the like. Victor does maintenance on them once in a while, but it's far from obvious, with how quickly the hair comes back. Underneath the dark brows are light brown eyes that sometimes look amber, depending on the lighting. He has a large nose that looks oddly shaped at some angles. The center of his nose dips down a little lower then the sides, and when caught at the right angle, almost gives off a bulb-like appearance. There is a small bump on the bridge of his nose, and his nostrils are on the large side. If there was one thing he could change about his body, it would likely be his nose. Victor's lips are decently shaped and have little color to them; they're a very pale shade of pink. As stated before, sometimes his face is clad with hair, ranging from a five o'clock shadow to an intentional beard and mustache, although he doesn't let it grow too long. It usually gives him more of a scruffy appearance then anything.
When it comes to his body, he's never considered himself to be anything spectacular. He stands at around six feet and two inches. He hasn't been weighed in ages, but it's safe to say that he's not overweight, but right around average. Gaining muscle mass has never been one of his interests or skills, and while he isn't flabby, he's not going to be winning any body building contests, either. Victor isn't lazy and does do some activities to keep himself in shape; he has a light outline of abdominal muscles, but they aren't defined and probably never will be. In the same theme with his eyebrows, Victor has a lot of other thick body hair. The most noticeable hair is on his arms, legs, and a triangle of hair on upper chest. He is able to pull the look off, though it's not as though he really has a choice. It gives him a manly appearance, although sometimes he covers it up with long sleeves. There have been a few occasions in his life where he's gotten his body hair waxed, but it's not something that he makes a habit of.
Finally there is his style in clothing. As previously mentioned, Victor keeps his appearance in mind pretty much constantly. If he's trying to avoid attention, he wears very plan clothing, such as regular jeans and a solid colored shirt, along with a baseball cap if appropriate for the location. If he's bumming around his place and not expecting company, Vic is perfectly content with wearing sweatpants and a shirt. If he's trying to make a good impression outside of work, he's happy to wear a button up colored shirt, perhaps with the sleeves rolled to three-quarter length with a nice set of slacks. At work he likes to look sharp more often than not, especially if he's giving a presentation, so he's likely to wear a suit. To keep things from being too formal when wearing a suit, he sometimes unfastens a button or two on his shirt and leaves the jacket open, sometimes without a tie. Needless to say, he doesn't really have a set style, and constantly changes with his environment. It's almost like he's a human chameleon.
* - - - look deep insideTo put it all very simply, Victor is a rather complicated being. His personality that is displayed for all to see is something that, like most other things with him, changes frequently in order to fit the situations that he's in. It's as though he has a mask for every occasion--although his masks are not perfect. Sometimes they crack and other aspects of his personality shine through, most often when he doesn't want them to. Needless to say, he's a very manipulative person, and often attempts to bend situations to make them fit his agenda.
Abrasive and generally rude, Victor doesn't interact well with others unless he views them as a stepping stone to get to where he wants to be. Then he can turn on the charm, and if that doesn't work, he turns to intimidation and loaded threats. Vic has threatened to kill people in the past, and while it's never come to that, it's something he feels that he could be capable of, given the right situation. That's a darkness that hasn't come to the surface yet, although it was in the back of his mind after what his ex pulled. Sometimes he wonders what would happen if he let his anger free and rolled with the punches--it probably wouldn't be good. Needless to say, he has a dreadful temper that he does his best to keep under wraps when around others. It slips out sometimes though, especially when dealing with others that he finds less intelligent, or when his plans don't go right.
He's goal oriented and rather stubborn in some aspects. He's also incredibly selfish and really only looks out for himself, with very few exceptions. One definite exception is his daughter, who he really does love quite dearly, but has difficulties showing those emotions. In fact, aside from anger and confidence, he really has trouble showing any other emotions that he might be feeling. Victor doesn't like to show his weaknesses, because he figures that someone will just use it against him. If someone hurts his feelings or makes him upset, instead of confronting the person about the situation and trying to work it out that way, he turns to revenge instead.
Deep down, he is a person that has become so lost over time, that he doesn't actually know where his act ends and where his actual personality truly begins. He isn't all bad, in fact, he's someone who is largely misunderstood. He wasn't always so messed up. Victor has never been full of sunshine and rainbows, but it was when his fiance left him, when his personality took a turn for the worst. He has become more selfish, and although he doesn't always feel confident, he acts like it.
* - - - the family honorOn July seventeenth, nineteen seventy nine, Victor Lee Boggs was brought into the world. He was welcomed by his mother and father, Anita and Calvin Boggs, along with a three year old sister, Caroline. As the baby, he received plenty of attention and affection, especially by his older sister. Life started out to be pretty good, he started preschool successfully and his parents often got good reports back from his teachers, talking about how bright he was for a young boy his age. Things shifted drastically in Victor's life when he was six years old. His parents announced that they were pregnant with another child, something that they had been trying for a while to have. At first, Victor was excited about the whole matter, because he didn't know any better. He was told that it was certainly a time to be happy, that soon there would be another friend around the house for him to have and watch over. He didn't realize that it was a lifelong sentence of being put on the back burner, nor did he see that it meant constant comparison. Anthony was born, and everything changed. Caroline didn't have to worry about getting attention because she was the only daughter, not to mention the oldest; attention was guaranteed. Anthony was a darling young boy, someone who was charming to look at, and Anthony easily took his destined spot as the golden boy of the family.
As if things weren't changing enough as it was, his father's company began to cut employees due to lack of business; Calvin was one of the lucky who was able to keep his job. However, business being as slow as it was, he was forced to travel to the different branches of the company that were worldwide. He wasn't about to leave his family behind, and so the place that Victor had settled into and even had friends at, was quickly and unexpectedly in the rear-view mirror, a few months after his seventh birthday. The rest of his family seemed to be able to transition well into whatever environment they were thrown into, but young Victor had a difficult time doing so. Growing up, he hadn't ever been too social, he had mainly gained his friends at his old school because they knew him long enough for him to warm up. As his family moved from place to place, the duration of time they stayed put varied greatly, sometimes it was for a year, other times it was only for a couple months, and anywhere in between.
Although he switched schools frequently, there was one thing that he always had to hold onto, which were his good grades. He was always at the top of his classes, something that certainly didn't help his popularity any. At home, his parents were still fawning over Anthony and Caroline, and while he wasn't totally ignored, he didn't get the spotlight like the other two did. He rarely got into trouble at school, he had good grades, and didn't go out with any friends, thus there wasn't usually anything to scold him about. At the same time, there wasn't much to praise him for either, because he had started to prefer to stick to himself. Although he had wonderful grades, Caroline did too, and out of the two, her's were what really mattered because she was in high school. So, over time he became more withdrawn from his family and new people who came into his life. He didn't feel the need to make friends at school, because he never stayed in one place long enough to keep them, and it hurt less to up and leave that way. If he wasn't attached to anyone, he didn't have to lose anyone. He kept to himself and began to bide his time until he would truly make something of himself. He continued to absorb as much knowledge as he possibly could, banking on the idea that it would be what would change his life later on.
His first year of high school was just like the rest of his school career--unstable and left him still at the top of his class. During the summer after he finished up his freshman year, his dad's company finally found just the right place for him, which just so happened to be in Walten City. A couple weeks into the school year, the Boggs family made their next move. Victor finally had a stable place to live, but by that time it was already too late with his personality. Despite the fact that some of the students tried to make him feel welcome, he rejected their efforts, too used to being by himself. He didn't trust what his parents said, that they'd stay there for the rest of his high school career, so he didn't see why he should set himself up for disappointment. Instead, he worked hard with his studies and pushed away the others at school with a cool attitude, one that displayed the fact that he was over confident in himself. With little else to believe in over the years, he had to believe in himself. He also came off as rather selfish too, because he hadn't ever really learned how to make or maintain friends, so he was quite self-centered. At Walten City High School, he finally met his match. Vic was no longer on top when it came to his grades, but instead came in second place. Although coming in second place was customary at home, it was a new matter at school. It brought out his competitive nature and when he continued to fall second despite his greatest efforts, he started to have issues with anger.
Once graduated, he moved out of his house almost immediately. He wasn't really that close to his family anyway, and although finances were tight because he was only supporting himself on income for working at the local library, he swung it somehow. He began to attend college at Walten University aiming for a degree in science. Victor became interested in the different types of energies, such as nuclear, fossil fuel, solar, and other varieties. It later became his ambition to find a power that would revolutionize the world, because not only were alternate energy sources needed, but he would be famous if he achieved his goals. He was very determined at college and four years later, he had a degree. He began to search for a job, and was hired in at Walten Power Plant. He started off at the bottom of the chain, but didn't have much trouble climbing the ropes, though it was time consuming.
When he was twenty-six years old, he met a woman who changed his life. Although he wasn't social unless he needed to be for some greater purpose, she was somehow able to break down his walls and the two began to date. To be honest, she was the first girlfriend he had ever had, and he was quite taken with her. Finally after all the time of pushing people away, there was someone who understood him or at least tried to, and who had picked him instead of all the other people she could have decided on. After a just over a year of dating and being intimate with each other, Alaina revealed that she was pregnant. Victor didn't know how to handle the news, he was excited about having a child but he was also scared out of his mind, since interacting with children had never been one of his strong points...in fact, children had never liked him for whatever reason. Despite the fact that it was uncharacteristic for him, he asked her to marry him, in order to try and do things right. He was looking forward to having his first truly stable relationship with someone and had high hopes for the future. Alaina wanted to wait until after having the baby to get married, something that Victor didn't really have an issue with.
Victor became a father at twenty-eight years old, to Emilee Jayne Boggs. Just as he feared, Emilee didn't take too well to him, even when he tried, he always seemed to make her cry whenever he picked her up. Two months later, when the set wedding day came, Alaina decided to tell him that she just didn't think it was going to work out in the long run between them. She told him that she had met someone else, and that she was taking Emilee and moving out of the apartment they shared together in order to pursue other options. It was something that he hadn't expected to happen and it was a blow that took him completely off guard. He didn't know what to do, so he did the only thing he could think of at the time, and withdrew from the world again, not wanting to be burned again. He wasn't a total victim in the situation, because although he couldn't see his own faults, he had become rather clingy to Alaina, as well as over-protective. Sometimes that's not a bad thing, but since he wasn't used to being close to others, he often took it to extremes.
He started to focus more on work, trying to keep his mind off his failed relationship. It didn't help that he had shown Alaina off to his family--who had been quite pleased with the fact that he was getting married--only to have to tell them that things between them were over. As usual, he was compared to his brother and sister, as they were both married and were successful in life. Vic soon found himself in court for child support. Alaina had the nerve to bring her new boyfriend there along with Emilee; seeing the three of them together as a family made him sick. He is now currently in a custody battle of Emilee, and is quite determined to get his daughter back in his life full-time. He wants revenge against his ex, and the best way to go about it in his mind is to start with Emilee. He is blinded by that facet of the situation right now, and is losing sight of what others would find important--the well being of the child. The child could perhaps be his saving grace though, but such things can only be speculated and remain to be seen. In the meantime, he has been mostly successful at work, but is not considered to be the top employee, even though he's been putting a lot of effort forth. It's just one more thing in Victor's life that he's pursuing, and hell will freeze over before he gives up.
* - - - connect the dotsFirst is the play-by. Personally I think he's gorgeous, but in most standards, Zachary Quinto is an average looking guy. He's not perfect and if he wasn't famous, people would probably pass him in the streets without giving much thought to him. That's not to say that he can't clean up and look suave, because he certainly can, but there are some pictures where he just looks like an ordinary guy. I feel that this fits with Randall because he was someone who had the power to blend in with the scenery and go around being unnoticed. His chameleon-like power helped him to sneak around and eavesdrop on others without their knowledge of it. I could see Zachary Quinto (again, if he wasn't famous) being able to sit off in a corner and have not one person give him a double take. At other times, when Randall wanted his presence known, he walked into a room like he owned it, another ability I believe that Zachary Quinto can pull off. I think that he has pictures that reflects both styles and it's something I put a lot of thought into when deciding that Zachary Quinto was the right person to take on the human persona of Randall Boggs.
It took a while to come up with a career that I thought would be fitting to the character, and actually it was Marv who came up with the idea of him being a lobbyist. I wanted to have him work at a power plant, because that's the closest thing I could think of when turning the movie into real life. The reason I put him as a lobbyist is because when he built the scream extractor, he viewed it as he was paving the way of the future of Monsters Inc, and seemed to be trying to convince Mr. Waternoose that it was a good idea. Also, I feel as though the scarers were performers to some extent--it was Randall's job to go in and put on an act to scare children. As a lobbyist, he has to promote products and the company, whether he likes what he's promoting or not, something that is an act too.
Moving onto his personality, in the movie, Randall had a few things going on that really made him who he was, in my opinion. Randall is a lizard type monster in the movie, something that his personality and demeanor reflects. The movie shows that Randall isn't opposed to using physical force when trying to get what he wants from people, depending on his mood. When he's aggravated, he doesn't hesitate to put his hands on others, in order to either intimidate them or to prove a point. He's manipulative, something shown several times when he's on the screen. He takes advantage of people and uses them to get what he ultimately wants. Victor shares all of these things with his animated counterpart, something I tried to display throughout his personality and history as well. When it comes to physical fights, Victor doesn't get into them often surprisingly, but when he does, he fights dirty and uses the surrounding area to his advantage. This was true for the Disney character as well; when Sulley arrived to save Boo from Randall's scream extractor, Randall began to attack Sulley while he was blended into the surroundings. This caused the fight to start off unfairly, and Randall proceeded to use the tactic throughout the skirmish.
Finally, there's his history. Change was something crucial to Randall's character. With his chameleon like ability and the constant change of his settings, I think it's only natural that it influenced him. I tried to display that in Victor's history as well, by making his life change constantly. I also wanted to do my best to explain why he's so selfish and why he's so determined to be the best. Being a middle child definitely can be a difficult spot to be in, and it's something that really affected this character, along with all the moves his family had to make. I feel this helped to shape him in the long run to be like Randall.
I put the issues with Victor's family in his history because in the movie, it really doesn't seem like Randall is attached to anyone. There is no mention of his family and no signs that he's close to anyone really, aside from Fungus, who just tends to aggravate him. I did my best to transfer that over to real life. There are always reasons as to why people are the way the are, life events that have changed their views and outlook on life. I did my best to not make it over dramatic, but at the same time, the way his character behaved in the movie leads me to believe that some negative things happened to him throughout his life.
In regards to his daughter and the custody battle, I put that in the application to tie in the fact that the animated Randall was trying to kidnap Boo in order to use her for his scream extractor. Victor cares for his daughter, but that's not the only reason he wants full custody of her, it's for revenge against his ex. Getting Boo was sort of Randall's version of revenge again Sulley, and would be his way of finally winning and topping his rival. I felt this was the best way to tie in this factor of the movie in a realistic way.
* - - - the stuff heroes are made of
It was getting to be that time of year again, when the weather began to warm up and the vegetation that had died over winter began to grow once more. Spring time had hit Walten and while the nights were still chilly before summer came and took over, the town had a tradition that went back ages. The Walten Annual Bonfire was taking place, something that Victor Boggs wasn't too excited to attend, but something that was essential regardless of his personal feelings toward it. It wasn't as though he was a shut-in anymore like he used to be when he was younger, his job made him get out there and talk to people he didn't know and he was decent at it. It was something necessary for him to get where he wanted to be in life, so even though he didn't often enjoy the company of those he was with, he conversed with them anyway so he could excel at work. Victor felt that it would be a smart move for him to go down to the bonfire in order to display his loyalty to the town, hopefully his boss would notice and it would earn him some extra points.
Instead of taking his vehicle down to the party, he decided to walk instead. Aside from the fact that it wasn't too far away, walking would be a lot easier then trying to maneuver his car down through the sea of people that would likely show up. It wouldn't do for him to run someone over, even though it was certainly tempting at times. The weather outside was still a tad chilly, and he was almost positive that no one would be crazy enough to swim in such weather, no matter how much warmth the large bonfire provided. As he continued down the sidewalk toward the beach, he shoved his hands into the pockets of his sweater that he was wearing. He wasn't dressed in anything spectacular, instead his clothing style was rather simple for the night. While it was nice to make an appearance and put in his time, he didn't want to socialize with a whole lot of people, he just wasn't really in the mood for it. Vic was wearing a button-up shirt with the first couple undone in order to promote being causal, with a solid gray sweater over it, to dress down the collared shirt. His jeans were dark in color although still blue, and on his feet were black converses, something that he often wore.
As he neared the beach, he could hear plenty of people chatting and having a good time in the distance. The fire was visible and the flames had already taken off quite nicely. He was looking forward to getting up closer to it. Victor wasn't a big fan of cold weather, in fact much the opposite; he hated it. The coming of summer, that was definitely something he could celebrate. When he reached the sand, suddenly his converses didn't seem like such a good idea anymore, but he trudged forward until he got close to the flames. Victor narrowly avoiding a stick that a flaming marshmallow was stuck on, by a girl who was having a bit too much fun already it seemed. He scowled lightly and kept on moving away from that area, as he didn't feel like being caught on fire--he wasn't that cold-- until he found a spot that was relatively empty. He glanced around and took a seat on a log sitting near the flames, and settled in, ready to see just what the bonfire would have in store. * - - - the mouse behind the ears your name: Jen. gender: Female. rp experience: Six years. age: Twenty. how you found us: The monsters under my bed told me about it.
