this application is complete
Aiden Colin Flint.
* tell us a little about yourself.Oh, hi there! Uuuh, wow. You’re actually interested in me? Well, I’m not all that interesting. I mean, others don’t seem to think so, but I think I’ve got a pretty interesting lifestyle! … Once you get past the fact that I don’t get out with people much, and I pretty much stay locked up in my little room down here. Oh. Sorry. Rambling. Uh, my name’s Aiden Colin Flint. Not really bad for a guy like me, I guess. My nickname is Flik, mainly because of my last name. I don’t even remember how it started-- it was like, in middle school. I got picked on a lot, and the guys there, and I think they flicked me or something? And I hated it, so I told them to stop-- but that just made them keep going of course, so then they started calling me ‘Flick’ but as it was written, there was no ‘C’ and… oh. Rambling again, sorry. I’m 23, approaching my 24th birthday slowly. I was born on November 25th, and I grew up in Walten; in fact, my mom and dad live a few blocks away from the place I work. Which is the Anton Harvest Company. I started working there a few years back, and honestly… it’s a surprise they haven’t fired me yet, heh heh. I have a knack for causing accidents there when I‘m working on my inventions, and it mainly gets on everyone’s nerves-- except the woman who owns it. She’s pretty kind, and knows mistakes happen. Her daughter isn’t that kind though, but I know she’s just under a lot of stress, and -- oh, my inventions? Can’t believe I didn’t mention that! Haha, my dad got me into inventing when I was a little kid. He always told me there was a way to improve the world, make it a little better, but it needed a little shove first. We had to give it that shove. I’ve always got some kind of idea goin’ in my head, and I’m always trying to improve the way our system works. But usually… I end up getting my self into trouble, heh heh.
* what are some of your positive traits?Well, I’m pretty much an optimist. I see the best in everyone, and I see the positive side to everything. I’m sure it gets on a lot of people’s nerves; especially my boss. She’s a pessimist, and a worry wart. She just doesn’t know how to take things slow and easy. But boy, she’s one in a million. I always try to be in a good mood, and I can bring others up with me. I can make others feel better, even if I’m hiding how I feel crappy. I’ve always got a smile on my face, and I’m always willing to help out. I just don’t see the point of bringing myself down, because then I’d be bringing others down with me.
As an inventor, I have to be creative. Or else, how would I invent things? See? They go hand-in-hand! I can come up with some pretty wacky stuff sometimes, and as a kid, I used to make up dumb stories to get me out of trouble. Not that I got into much trouble, anyway, but if I ever did, I always had something on hand! I have a crazy imagination, and it always helped me when I was in school and stuff. I got straight A’s in English, and my shop teacher was always complimenting my inventions, even if I caused a little… destruction along the way. But kinda like my boss now, he realized that they were only… minor accidents, you know? I mean… a few limbs being chopped off here and there doesn’t qualify as big in my book! Nah, nah, just kidding. I’ve never dismembered anyone before… just kidding.
I’m very confident and I always have the utmost faith in myself. I always convince myself as I’m working on a new invention that this’ll be it, it’ll get me famous and everyone will thank me for the help and improving society. But… I haven’t gotten to that point yet. That doesn’t mean I never will! I’ll be there someday, I just know it. I just have to work harder and stop… injuring people along the way. Hah! Kidding… again. It’s that kidding thing that I do… yeah. I mean, it hurts when everyone makes fun of the way my inventions don’t work, but I’ve built a “protective force” around me, if you will, and learned not to let their insults get the best of me. I just brush myself off and start all over again. Sometimes I feel a bit hopeless, but I’ll get there someday. I’m determined to.
I understand when people are coming from when they talk about their dreams. Some people get more discouraged than I do, and put themselves down because they don’t think they’re going anywhere with their lives. I’ve been there plenty of times, and I can usually say something to cheer whoever it is I’m talking to up.
* what are some things that you can improve on?Have you got a lot of time? Because I do. There are a lot of things I can improve on, honestly. I’m always kind of anxious and impatient, and I get restless easily. If I have to wait for something a long time, I get bored, complain and whine, and I don’t stop pacing the floor until whatever it is I’m waiting for comes. I panic easily, and probably worry too much about certain things. The chill pill was invented for me.
I’m probably a little too determined and it takes a lot to get me discouraged. I think that everyone thinks the way I do, so I’m sure they’re determined for me to succeed. But sometimes, I don’t even think about the fact that people want me to stop blowing up stuff and just focus. I usually don’t even realize that though, nor do I think about what other people want. My determination gets in the way of it, and it’s probably one of my worst traits at times.
I ramble. A lot. Once you get me started on a topic, I usually don’t stop. Of course, that one topic leads to other topics, and until someone shuts me up, I’ll just keep going and going. If it’s only to break an awkward silence, that’s great, but most of my talking comes from excitement. I’ll get really worked up about an invention or something or another, and end up driving everyone up the wall with my stupid rambling, because I usually don’t think about the fact that no one cares.
* what's your biggest secret? we won't tell.Uuuuh… well, I don’t think it’s really a big secret, but my one dream is to be successful and appreciated. I was put on this earth to help people, and I just want to succeed. For once, it’d be nice to have someone not look down on me, not pick on me, and just give me a confident boost or phrase. I can give them to myself, but it isn’t the same. It’s kinda nice when people appreciate you for your hard work. But I’ll get there someday, I guess.
* what does your heart want?Haha, uh… girls? Me? Well, I’ve kinda got a thing for this girl at work… she’s sorta kinda my boss, who’ll eventually own the company. She’s one-in-a-million. She’s smart, got her head on straight, a worry wart, kinda like I am, and she just amazes me. But… why would she ever notice me? I mean, this is the guy that exploded coffee all over her face at lunch one day. She only knows me for the trouble I cause. She’d never even think of me that way.
* what do you do in your spare time?Well number one is a no-brainer. INVENTING! It’s what I do in my spare time, all the time. I don’t invent specific things, really; everything is according to my mood. Or if something hits me, like BAM, I have to get to my little room in the basement of the company and start working on a cheap model of the idea IMMEDIATELY. But if that’s impossible, I just write the idea down in a little notebook I carry around with me. I get inspiration from the weirdest things, you know? Like, I’ll see a woman walking her baby stroller down the street. Nothing unusual, right? WRONG! I think of an invention to make it easer for a busy mom to jog with her baby at her side, go back into my “lab” and sketch it, and HELP THE WORLD! Well… not exactly like that. I’m not even sure if an invention like that is possible, heh heh. I’m just using it as an example, but DO YOU GET WHAT I MEAN? Things like this could be great breakthroughs! We could change the world!
The other thing I mainly do is read. I like learning about stuff; it gives me inspiration and ideas for new inventions. I’m always trying to figure out how to work one part or another, especially if I can’t fiddle with it and figure it out, so books are a must.
Lastly, the other thing I do is work. I work at the Anton Harvest Company, where we mainly harvest fruits. And grain. Oh, so much grain. It’s not fun, but it pays pretty well, and I get to see my cute boss every morning, which is a plus, heh heh…
* so what does your family life look like?My relationship with my dad was… weird. One minute, he’d be showing me a lot of affection, and the next, he couldn’t stand me. He never really did anything with me; I didn’t have any siblings, so it wasn’t like he could devote his time to them. He liked to just… sit around and watch football games. But he did get me interested in inventing. When my dad wasn’t wasting his time with some stupid ball game, he was out in the garage or in the basement, puttering with different tools and pieces. He used to let me watch, and I remember he’d let me direct where some of the pieces would go at times. That’s really how I remember getting involved with inventing, and getting interested in helping people. I asked him why he did things like that out in the garage, instead of spending time with mom or doing something better with his time. He told me that he could be changing the world; he just had to be patient and see if the world caught on. I guess that’s where my philosophy and determination came from.
My mom is AWESOME. Well, in a sense, heh heh. I don’t want you to think I’m some kind of mama’s boy or anything… ‘cuz I’m not. I just love my mom… that’s all. Anywho, she’s great. My mom always helped me out when I needed it. She always gave me encouragement. Not to give you a sob story, but when I was teased and picked on when I was a kid, she was always around for me. When the world was my enemy, she gave me this cheesy “seed to tree” speech. It was corny, but it really worked. It’s been embedded in my mind ever since, and I just have a feeling it’ll come in handy someday. I think she’s how I learned to empathize as well, and she gave me my love of knowledge.
* what are the memorable moments in your life?Earlier, I mentioned the famous “seed to tree” speech. It was my mom’s metaphor to explain that being little really isn’t a bad thing. I was pretty small when I was little, too small to keep up with other kids my age. I was made fun of a lot because of it, but then again, finding reasons to make fun of me was pretty easy. But my mom gave me this speech that has stuck with me my entire life. She poured a handful of seeds into my hand, and said: “Do you see that tree? Everything contained inside that giant tree is already contained inside this tiny little seed. All it needs is some time, a little bit of sunshine and rain and ta-da!” It didn’t make much sense to me then, but as I got older, it made a lot of sense, and it applies to everyone at least once in their life. You may feel small sometimes, but all you need is a little time and space. You’ll grow and be able to keep up with everyone else eventually.
I think the second thing I remember the most was my first invention. I was in first grade, I think. It was some lame book light/page turner combo thing, but wow, my dad was proud. He was just surprised I’d taken after him. He did teach me some stuff in the garage, and he wanted me to build things like he did. My inventions were crazier and wackier than his, that’s for sure, but he was still proud. It’s the only thing I can remember him being proud of, in my case, anyway… but when I wanted to go out and fiddle with junk in the garage, he was always by my side. Unless there was a football game on or something, heh heh.
I guess the last most memorable moment would be my job. I got hired at Anton Harvesting Company a few years back. It’s one of the best jobs in town, in my opinion. I’m trying to get onto the creative team there, so I can bring up some of my inventions, but… they don’t really think that’s a good idea. Apparently, I cause more trouble than I do help out, heh. Like I said earlier though, it’s gonna get better. Someday, they’ll realize that my inventions can make a difference. At least… well, I hope so.
* so we've heard that you're a lot like Flik
name: I was gonna go with ‘Anthony,’ but I thought it’d be too obvious. So I went with Aiden, which is another A name and not so blunt. ‘Colin’ is for colony, and Flint just sounds like ‘Flik’ with a few letters switched around. His nickname is Flik.
play by: Aaron has a bright smile, and if Flik were human, I’m sure he’d have blue eyes. Someone suggested him in the C-box and I thought he was perfect, so I went with it.
positive traits: Flik was obviously very creative, because he was an inventor. He was insightful, and never gave up on his dreams and ideas, even if they didn’t really take off at first. That’s where the confidence comes in. He had the utmost faith in himself, even when no one else did. Everyone in the colony thought he was a joke, but in the end, he ended up saving them. Even when he flew into the rock on the dandelion, he just picked himself back up with an “I’m okay!” and went back on the move again. He’s happy. All. The. Time. Almost like it’s not humanly possible.
negative traits: Flik just doesn’t seem to be capable of relaxing. He’s always up and moving in the movie, and always doing something. He can’t sit still, and yet he seems like he’s always struggling to keep up with the rest of the colony. Because he and Dot wandered away in the film, they were late to run into the ant hill. Flik’s invention got thrown onto the offering stone, and it threw all of the food for the grasshoppers into the tiny lake. The things he loves hold him back sometimes because he’s so dedicated and focused. Flik also just had a tendency to ramble on and on about nothing at all. The topics of his conversations would run from one thing to another thing in a matter of seconds, and he usually said something to embarrass himself. Especially around Princess Atta, or someone else he was trying to impress; think very, very bad verbal diarrhea.
orientation: Flik was pretty much straight, I’m sure. xD You could always tell he had a crush on Atta, even if she was too oblivious to realize it until later on. When it came to girls, you could tell Flik was the type to be shy and self conscious about it, so he would never make the first move. Unless he was feeling confident, like he was when he kissed her.
turn ons: Flik obviously doesn’t have girls on his mind that much, unless you count Atta. Still, he was more focused on belonging and finding his place in the colony, not winning her over. Having a girl around was the least of his worries, even though you could tell he had a thing for Atta.
turn offs: Flik was always optimistic, and it took a lot to get his spirits down. It took a lot to get through to him. He couldn’t really take a hint. Near the end of the movie, when everyone found out that the Circus Bugs weren’t warriors, he was on the edge of giving up. Aiden would want someone as optimistic as him, and someone who could get his hopes up when he was feeling lost.
spare time: I’m pretty sure Flik didn’t get out much. The other ants in the colony acted like they hated him for the various mistakes he’d made, so he was pretty much ostracized, even if he was too oblivious to realize that. He spent most of his time inventing random things to help the colony, even if they ended up getting him into trouble in the end. Flik was also the intellectual type; you could tell he loved learning and craved knowledge, so I gave Aiden the love of reading. And lastly, almost all he and the other ants did was… harvest. Food for the grasshoppers and themselves. So Aiden works at a harvest company, and has a crush on the owner’s daughter, who’s training to take over the company.
family life: The movie didn’t give any background information on Flik’s parents, so I pretty much had creative license on that. Aiden was really close to his mom, but had an odd, so-so relationship with his dad.
memorable moments: Aiden’s first memorable moment was the “seed to tree” speech. I took this out of the movie. While Flik did a good job of explaining the metaphor in the movie, Dot just didn’t get it. The other two memorable moments were basically up to me. I picked what I thought would be two important milestones in Aiden’s life. He’s obviously going to remember when he started inventing, and despite how everyone hated him “helping” out in the movie, he loved his job, so that was probably memorable too.this application was written by Kat, who also plays Jasmine Ahmed.
