rachel says . . ."Nate this isn't helping. I want to be able to understand so that I can help you."

"You can't help. You can't fix this. You can't bring her back. Nothing can help so just stop trying."

rachel says . . ."I'm sorry for pushing you but I just . . . I didn't want us to turn into Jean and Wendy and . . . I guess I just I don't know that comment about me leaving you I don't ever want you to think that I'm abandoning you because I'm not and I won't ever. Are you ok? If you need anything just name it and I'm on it."

"Yeah, well, you couldn't help it. You're too much like Mom, sometimes. We will never be Jean and Wendy. I know you're not abandoning me, I was just pissed. You can't compare me to Dad and not expect me to get pissed. There really is nothing you can do, Rachel. Just - don't tell Dad. It's bad enough that I dropped out of med school, I can't deal with him knowing it was because of a girl. He'd turn it into something it wasn't."

rachel says . . ."I won't tell him not that we talk on a regular basis anyway. Did she . . . was it . . . Do you want to come over Sunday night and watch the game with Jean and I? We can order wings and pizza and whatever the hell I'm craving at the moment and you and Jean can yell at the tv beers in hand."

"Yeah, that sounds good. [sigh] You can just ask. I'm talking about it now, you might as well ask whatever you want to know so we don't have to do this all again."

"Her name was Stephanie. She was - amazing. You would have loved her. She didn't take any of my shit. She's the reason I left med school. She could see I hated it, she just had to get me to see that that was the most important thing. After we were together for a while she told me why she'd come to California in the first place. She'd been engaged but she took off cause the guy was an ass. She felt bad about just picking up and leaving, though. She was thinking for a while about going back and it was really messing with my head. I didn't want her to go and she just couldn't make up her mind. And then one night I fucked it all up. I went out with some buddies to blow off some steam and I hooked up with some random girl. I felt like shit and I told her first thing but the next morning she was gone. All her stuff was still in the apartment, she just took off, saying she had to go fix things with her ex and that she didn't know if she'd be back. Two days later she was dead."
