This application is complete Kole Vittorio Léon
* - - - once upon a time full name: Kole Vittorio Léon nicknames: Absolutely none are acceptable meaning of name: Kole means victory of the people. Kole's mother always saw him as a means to victories for her, and his siblings by default. Vittorio means winner or conquerer. Kole has a very competitive streak and settles for nothing less than getting what he wants. Léon means lion. Kole is based on the character Kovu from The Lion King II who was, in fact, a lion. age: Twenty Three birthday: October Ninth occupation: Police Officer play by: Ed Westwick canon: Kovu from The Lion King II
* - - - the fairest of them allLooking at Kole, you may not think he looks much like the kind of guy who becomes a police officer. Well, to be honest, you wouldn't really know what to think. He's an attractive guy but his good looks are a little off set but the two expressions he's always wearing. His mocking smirk or his intimidating blank poker face. Unless you know him well, these are the only real expressions to be identified on his face. Of course, if you know him well, you can tell a little more about what he's feeling from the tension in his jaw, the set of his lips, or how narrowed his eyes are.
His height isn't anything to talk about, he's not the tallest guy on the block. He only tops out around five foot ten which puts him at half an inch taller than his sister and four inches below his older brother. He blames his father for his height, it's one of the few traits he doesn't share with his to half-siblings. It's not a huge deal for him, though. He's not nearly that vain. What he lacks in height he makes up for in force. Not everyone is a towering giant anyway. His head is covered in a mess of black hair that he tends to wear short but pretty scruffy. Only when he's pulling on his dress blues does he bother to do anything with it. And since that's not often, just expect to see the mess. Also, he's not the kind of guy that worries about shaving every day. He lets the stubble grow for a couple days before he really bothers with it. Usually it's someone bugging him to shave that gets him to bother at all.
Kole's face is pretty square in shape, his jaw strong and well defined. He has thick eyebrows that are more or less straight across his high forehead. His deep brown, almost black, eyes are more narrow than most, something he uses to his advantage to intimidate people. His nose is wide and rounded at the end. His lips are thin and narrow, like his eyes, and really the only way to tell how he's feeling. When he's irritated, the only thing on his face that will change is the tension in his lips. Kole has some Italian in him so his skin has a bit of an olive tone to it but it's no where near as dark as his sister's skin. Of his siblings, his coloring is closer to that of his older brother. His body, though short, is lean and athletic; and he's much stronger than he looks. He's not bulky or heavily muscled, his muscles are wiry and cover his body.
Kole doesn't care much for fashion. It's one of the pluses of having a job with a set uniform. When he's working above board, that is. When he's off duty, Kole is a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. He owns maybe four or five button up shirts that aren't part of his uniform? More often he's in a t shirt or a v neck. He tends to come out with that fashionably grungy look but the truth is, it's not fashion. It's just grunge. Last but not least, the extras. Kole doesn't have piercings of any kind but he does have a few tattoos. Three, to be exact. The first is a quote from a Daoist text on his left bicep, "Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power." The second is on his fight forearm, wrapping around his arm. It is a quote by author Og Mandino, "Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough." And the third is on his right bicep, the image of a lion's head coming out of a tribal design. * - - - look deep inside Coming from the kind of family he does, it's not entirely surprising Kole is the way he is. For one thing, he is an incredibly private person. He doesn't let anyone in, not a soul. The person closest to him is probably his sister, Gia, but even she doesn't get all the way into his head. He grew up in an orphanage and he learned quickly there that to get by you could only rely on yourself. The way he sees it, you let someone in on your deepest darkest secrets and one of two things happened. One, they use that secret to betray you to get what they want. Two, they leave you alone and take a piece of you with them when they go. Neither is an option he will accept and so he keeps his thoughts and his feelings to himself. It's not exactly bottling up his emotions; watch him training and you know he works out his tensions and hurts and disappointments in a very effective fashion. You don't need to talk to express yourself. Kole is living proof.
His strength is something Kole prides himself on. Not just his physical strength but his mental strength of will. He is a determined and persistent individual, not giving up on anything. What he wants to achieve, he achieves. He doesn't care how hard he has to work. Some call this stubborness, some call it tenacity, some call it determination. Whatever you want to call it, when Kole puts his mind to something it is impossible to shake him off. This quality of his is the inspiration for one of his tattoos. "Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough." Kole doesn't believe in failure. Not for himself. It is simply not an option. It's what makes him such an effective cop. He's the guy that closes the cases others don't, simply because he does not listen to the word no. It's also what makes him the bane of his superior's existence. He's also a very disciplined person, both in and out of uniform. He's the guy that wakes up at the break of dawn to work out on his own before heading to work and then going to the gym when he's off duty. He takes every chance he can to hone his skills, physical and mental. He'll be damned if anyone ever gets the better of him because he loses focus.
Another thing that makes Kole and effective cop is his righteousness. He might come across as a bad guy given his attitude but he actually has a pretty good guy. Okay, maybe not a good guy a decent moral compass anyway. Here's the deal morality wise on Kole. He's got a good handle on what is right and what is wrong. And he usually works for what is right. But he is also the kind of guy who believes that the ends justify the means. If it takes beating the shit out of some punk on the street to find out where the suspect he's trailing is, Kole won't think twice before swinging. Then, of course, there is the family grudge. More about that later but suffice it to say the goal of the judge isn't on the straight and narrow and neither are the means Kole plans to use to achieve it. But hey, it's personal.
As for that attitude we mentioned, boy does Kole have one. He may not be the guy that is in your face obnoxious but he has his own personal signatures. For one, he's cocky. He knows how great he is and has no issue pointing it out to you. You'll need to ask for it somehow, though. He doesn't start things, he just finishes them. As far as sense of humors go, Kole doesn't have one. Rather, he doesn't have time for them. He doesn't play and he doesn't joke. He's serious most of the time, the only thing close to a sense of humor he has is his cocky sarcasm. And even that is kept to a minimum. He is not easily amused and it takes a lot to make him crack the barest hint of a smile, let alone a real laugh. Kole is easily angered, as well. It's not uncommon for him to hit first and ask questions later, especially on the job. One you've pissed him off, there is little chance of getting off his bad side. He's one of the best grudge holders out there. He's incredibly protective of two things in the world. First and foremost is his sister. Second is his mother. He's protective of his brother to but more out of a sense of duty than anything else. Kole has a very strong sense of duty, both to his family and to his profession. These two things tend to rule the majority of his life.
One last important thing. Kole doesn't believe in love. He doesn't believe in devotion or trust or any of those things. For Kole, the only person you can rely on is yourself. Anyone else will hurt you or leave you. Which clearly makes the prospect of love an impossible one. The only people he can even begin to consider himself as 'loving' are his siblings and his mother and even that is a bit of a skewed definition of the word. Kole is determined that no one else should ever get close enough to him to even begin to think of the word love. And people who do claim to be in love? As far as Kole is concerned, they are disillusioned and in for a sorry surprised someday.
* - - - the family honor On October 9th some twenty three years ago, a woman named Mira gave birth to a son she named Kole. He wasn't the first, though. She'd had two children before him. Kole wasn't born into a happy family, though. His father and mother were not in love, not really. And they were even less in love with their child. They were poor and young and couldn't handle having a small mouth to feed. It was a story Mira was pretty familiar with since she had lived it twice before. Each time to the same end. Kole was dropped into an orphanage only a few months after he was born. His arrival there pretty much coincided with the date his father left his mother on her own with only a squalling kid to remind her of him. Kole, of course, didn't know any of this when he was only seven months old and living in an orphanage without parents. He also didn't know that he wasn't alone there, not really. The orphanage the small baby found himself in happened to be the same one Mira had dumped her first two offspring in as well, though not all that knowledge made it down the ranks.
Growing up, Kole did know that Gianna Léon was his sister. She was told when he first arrived and both were reminded as they grew, since Gianna had only been a bit over a year old herself when he arrived at the orphanage. Because of this blood tie, Gianna was really the only person Kole let into his life. Growing up in the orphanage, people came and went. The only real constants were Gianna, his sister, and her friend Tybalt. All the other children were in and out to foster homes and adoptive parents. Kole learned fast that the only person he could truly rely on was himself. So that was who he put his faith in. Unlike most kids, Kole never really wanted to be adopted. To trust a set of parents not to abandon him like his real ones had? It wasn't something he could do. So when he and Gianna were adopted, he wasn't happy about it. Unbeknownst to the little boy, however, was the fact that his new adoptive mommy was actually the woman who had left him behind so many years before. Her husband was brand new to both of the kids, though.
Tyler, Mira's new man, took an instant shine to young Kole. And to Gianna as well but he was the kind of guy who didn't see much use for girls. Kole, though, he could mold. And try he did. And sure, he had a good bit of impact, him and Mira both. Even if Kole never grew to really love his new family, he did develop a sense of duty to them. What he really learned from Tyler, though, was how to hold a grudge and how to hold his own in a fight. The Léons weren't really your all American family. Daddy wasn't proud of you if you made the football team but if you came home with a black eye but the other guy was worse off? That was cause for a pat on the back. And Kole got his fair share of black eyes. He definitely wasn't the teacher's pet in school. He sat sullenly in the classrooms he passed through and the only real interaction he had with other kids was beating the crap out of them when they dared to insult him outside of school's protective walls.
At some point during all this mess, Kole learned that Gia's old friend from the orphanage was actually his brother. Tybalt came to live with the family but it was clear to Kole from the start that it wasn't out of love on Mira's part. It was merely a way for her to irk Tyler, something that seemed to be going on a lot more as time went on. Until one day it all came to a head. Kole could still remember the cops coming to the house to pick up Tyler and the fight that ensued. Apparently, Tyler had been pushed past his limit and had killed a guy. An eye witness had come forward, a neighbor, and because of that there was no getting Tyler out of his mess. Mira was enraged. She started to impress upon her children that one day they would get back at the man who put Tyler away for good. It wasn't long before she really singled Kole out as the one to do it. After all, he had been Tyler's favorite.
After high school, Kole bypassed college and entered the police force. It was originally an option presented by his mother to get back at the man who'd put Tyler away but as time went on it became a job that Kole really enjoyed. It gave him a place to channel his issues, a place where getting in a fist fight wasn't always frowned upon. It also started to open up his eyes to how truly messed up his mother was and his childhood had been. Years later, he still humors his mother when she gets on her rants and rages about Tyler's imprisonment but Kole tends to let it slip in one ear and out the other. He's not entirely convinced her feud is reason enough to give up everything he's worked so hard for and he's not about to let anyone but himself have any more influence in his life. All that has ever gotten him is a mess and he's more than ready to take the reins in his own life.
* - - - connect the dots APPEARANCE Kovu was a lion so it's obviously not exactly similar. Kole and Kovu both have the same black hair and Kole wears his rather messy and free, kind of like a lion's mane. Kole's square face and strong jaw are also similar to Kovu. Also, Kole has a tattoo of a lion's head on his arm.
PERSONALITY Kole shares a lot of his personality with Kovu. Kovu was a strong and disciplined male, made so by his crazy mother. He was a warrior, crafted like a machine. Kole has a similar mindset. He is determined and focused, not letting anything distract him from his goal. Both also share a strong sense of duty, if not loyalty. I don't think Kovu ever was in touch enough with real emotions where his family was concerned so loyalty was out of his reach. Both were willing, at first, to get justice for their mother. Kovu was a private and isolated person until he met Kiara and even then she didn't get into his head easily. Kole and Kovu both seriously lack a sense of humor, and have issues with over confidence. The only time Kovu wasn't militarily serious when he met Kiara were the moments when he was boasting about how awesome he was. Both Kole and Kovu have a good sense of what is right and what is wrong, in the abstract. Kovu knew it was wrong to go after Simba but since it was a personal matter, it was okay in his mind. Like Kole, Kovu believed the end justified the means. He used Kiara as a way to get to her father.
HISTORY Holy dizzy mess. Okay. So Kole has his siblings in Gianna and Tybalt, Kovu had Vitani and Nuka. Kole also has a mother who is bat shit crazy, much like Zira. (Side note, I just noticed that Mira is Zira with an 'm') Where Kovu was chosen by Scar as his successor, Kole's step father Tyler took a special interest in Kole as he was growing up. Kovu was raised by his mother to kill Simba, getting justice for the death of Scar and reclaiming the Pride Lands. After Tyler was put in jail, Mira began training Kole to take revenge for Tyler's imprisonment on the neighbor who's testimony got him put away. In the end, Kovu followed his own heart and turned on his mother, standing up for what was right. While Kole would never be so sickeningly sentimental about it, he too fell off his mother's bandwagon in favor of ruling his own life and following his own head.
