it was a warm fall day. the sun was beaming in the sky enough to warm you, before the fall breeze came bustling through the air. lara was doing a favor for an elderly woman that she usually went shopping for. she lived in one the extravagant beach houses of palace rhodes. while she was away visiting her family, she gave lara the task of taking care of her jack russell terrier elizabeth. elizabeth had just given birth to a whole lot of puppies and could not travel with the old woman, so she called up lara and asked her to stay at her house until she came back from her trip. lara did not even think to deny the offer. this beach side mansion felt more like home then where she was living in town. lara could not wait until she saved up enough money to get herself a grand place like the one she had in new york. she refused any help from any of her family because she knew that they would ask her to come home or even try to figure out her address and come to walten city themselves. it was a peculiar feeling to be on her own for once. as lara finished checking up on the puppies and even playing with some of them, she decided she would take a stroll down the pier. it was not far from the house and it was so nice outside that she thought a little exploring on her own would be good. maybe she could even catch a little sun, just enough so that its healthy. lara personally could not understand why some people tanned on a regular. it was all together entirely awful for your skin. turning around to the cushioned victorian seats, she picked up her peacoat and draped it on her arm.
i should start watching the news like everyone else does. its just so boring most of the time and they just keep going on about pointless things like criminals and taxes. lara thought to herself with a roll of her eyes as she locked up the house and began her walk. sliding down her glasses onto her eyes, she tilted her head back in the sun and breathed in the ocean air. she then began walking up the stairs to the pier where she could look out toward the sea. from a distance she could see that there was a shop all by itself standing. without thinking, she let her feet take her. the wedges of her shoes thumped against the sandy wooden planks of the pier. she watched as some people passed her by. one couple strolling with their children and another group jogging along. it seemed that it was not very busy that day. it was around the time that everyone was at work, all caught up in something and wishing they were enjoying the day outside. for a few minutes her eyes gazed everywhere and before she knew it, lara was standing by the very same store she saw so far away.
she thought the distance did it justice, for it looked much more shabby and worn up close. lara's eyes scanned the words and when she saw they read pawn shop, she gave the shop a skeptical look. lara had never been in a pawn shop before and she imagined that it would not be a very inviting place to be. how could a place filled with possibly worn out dirty junk be any thing exciting to someone. when she thought of pawn shop she often thought of druggies wanting to get a fix so bad that they steal and sell things at a pawn shop. she was very curious about it though. lara thought about how some people like to go looking in the sand for lost belongings. everything from wedding rings to vintage necklaces. her mind of course was on jewelry and some dress that might have been sold here that are some shop-a-holics way of getting rid of all the things she feels she no longer needs. the thought was buzzing around her head and she could not swat it away. so, with one small step she opened the creaky door and walked in. it looked like a lost and found store, they had everything one could ever possibly imagine. lara could not help to feel that she would be needing some anti-bacterial after she left this place. after looking in her purse, she saw that she had a small bottle of it. her body took her straight toward the vintage sun glasses, where she spent a bit of time trying things out in the mirror. there wasn't really anyone there and she tried to think about the type of person that would actually come to shop at a pawn shop. she knew she was no where near the type, her being brightest thing in the shop. ”wonder how long this has all been here for” said lara softly to herself.
