Alice Brennan Liddell
* tell us a little about yourself.'Ello loves! My name is Alice Brennan Liddell. I'm 22 and I grew up in Oxford where my father was a paster and my mother a teacher. I have one older sister who's much more studious than I. Her name is Lorin and is five years older than me. She is quite a bore. I mean really, who wants to sit around all day and study or work? We're nothing alike.
I'm currently only 22 years old and I'm trying to be a part type writer, though it's incredibly hard for me to concentrate. I've just recently moved here to go to college. I don't know my major will be yet. I want it to be exciting, different. I don't know what I'll do yet and I find that exciting. I know I'll have to get a job here, so I can support myself, but I don't want it to be boring. I think I'm pretty average in looks, but people always tell me that I look just like Elisabeth Harnois.
* what are some of your positive traits?Well, I don't really know how many positive traits I have. I happen to think I have many, but others many not think this is so. I will say that I am very, very curious. I like to know things. Interesting things, boring things. I like to explore things and I always make up fantastical adventures about them. Mum says I need to stop lying. I just tell her they're true in my head, so why not tell people about them? I eavesdrop, investigate, and am very nosy. Some people may say that it's bad, but, is it really? All the advances in our society came from curious people. Who knows, maybe one day I'll be known for my curiosity.
My family always says I'm innocent and naive. Is that true? I don't think it is. How can a grown woman be innocent? Is it because I'm a virgin? I thought that just meant I was pure, not innocent. Hm, strange. How does one know that they are innocent? Thinking about it, I must be. Everyone says I am, even when I tell them that I am a mature young lady. Maybe it's because I always daydream? Well, I do always seem to be off in another world all my own. I like dreaming up fantastical stories.
There is one thing that must be a good trait! I am a perfect lady. I'm well-mannered, polite, courteous, mature, and have the elegance and gentleness of a young woman. After all, that is what i was taught back home. That, by the way, is why I do miss England. Everyone is so polite and nice there. Here in America, I've only met very crass, vulgar people. Surly there must be some gentlemen and ladies here. If not, I feel sure that I shall die!
* what are some things that you can improve on?Negative? Well, that can't be right. I don't really believe I have any negative traits. Well, I must I suppose. I am only a human girl. People tend to say that my curiosity is bad, even though I say it is certainly not. How can it be? After all, curiosity is how we discover things, how we learn, how we create. Would we have America if it wasn't for curiosity? Would we have all these fabulous inventions without curiosity? No, I think not. So this, my dear, I why I can't believe people say this it's my negative trait. It is so rude.
I will admit to this though, I am very, very restless. I hate being in one place for too long and I can't sit still. You can imagine what my trip here was like! Six hours on a plane...oh, it was pure torture! I'm very active and I must keep moving. Thats why I'm oh so horrible when it comes to studying. I can never wrap my brain around the idea that I must sit still. When I write, I always take a walk in the park, jotting down things as I go. You must imagine how annoying it is for my editor to have to come find me. I also tend to be very impatient. I need to have thing happen right now and I hate waiting. That could explain why I'm such a horrid cook...
I also may tend to have a...well, a large temper. I hate it when people are rude and not showing manners to others. It's one of my pet peeves. I always seem to be the one sticking up for the underdog and I tend to give many scoldings. I also scold myself you know, to make sure these bad habits don't come up.
* what's your biggest secret? we won't tell.Oh dear, my biggest secret? Well, I'm not sure if I'm comfortable telling you this. What if everyone finds out? Oh, it'd be so dreadful. What's that? Now, your positive you wont tell anyone? Well....alright, I'll tell you. The truth is...I wish I was more like my big sister. Lorin is so smart, and witty, and beautiful. And her children are so lovely, and her husband truly does love her. Mum and dad always thought she was better than me. I don't blame them. I wish I was more like Lorin and though I try and I try, I never seem to be anything like her.
* what does your heart want? My, my. You really are being quite thorough, aren't you? What does my heart want... That's a good question. I've never really thought of it before. You see, I've never had a real boyfriend. Oh sure, there were a few guys, but I never stayed with them for more than a week. None of them captivated my interest for any longer than that. Well, thinking about it...I want a guy with imagination. One that can almost match mine for you see, I have never heard of anyone with more imagination than I. If there are people like that, I would truly like to meet them. Wouldn't it be fun to? Oh, I'm getting off topic now, aren't I? Let's see. He must be funny and witty. Also, he can not be boring in anyway. I simply wont have it. He must not be a grouch either. I like to be in high spirits and I don't want a man who will bring me down. Hmm...you want me to tell you more? Well, let me see. I want a man that can ground me, so to speak. A man that can pull me out of my fantasies without crushing them. I couldn't have a bossy man. I am a grown, mature woman and will not be controlled.
* what do you do in your spare time?Well, I do love to write, I find it fun at most times. I can never sit still and write for more than a couple of minutes though. I've tried many things to get myself to sit down and write, I even locked myself in our broom closet with just my notebook and torch. It didn't help. I also, obviously, enjoy daydreaming. I do it literally all the time. When I'm at school, at home, I've even been known to do it on my dates when they turn into a bore. It's nice to keep myself entertained and in daydreaming, I find that I tell the most fantastical stories.
* so what does your family life look like?Well, I have a relatively small family. There's my mum, my dad, Lorin and my two kittens, Dinah and Villikins. My parents live in Oxford, England where my father is a paster and my mother a teacher. My father's a very nice man who is lots of fun and loves to tell me many stories. Of course, most of them are about realign so after a bit I tend to space out and not pay attention. Don't tell him though, for he thinks I love his stories. My mum isn't as fun. She's a Science teacher at Oxford College and hates my father's stories. She's always the one to tell me off about my fantasies of a far-off place or any other stories I make. She has nothing but praise for Lorin, who always gets A's and doesn't do anything remotely fun. But, I must hate my sister so, for she is quite wonderful in her own, boring way. She tries to teach me, but I simple have no head for such matters. She reads me poetry and when we were little, she would often take me into our garden and read to me. I would climb the large tree in my blue dress and listen to her. A shame she always picked the most boring books and I'd fall right asleep.
* what are the memorable moments in your life? One of the most memorable moments of my life was my sister and I in the garden when I was only twelve. I used to climb our tree in my favorite blue dress and listen as my sister read to me. One day, she had to go inside for a moment and I climbed down. I was making a Daisy chain for her when I saw a cute little white rabbit go by. I followed it and accidentally stepped into the rabbit hole. I fell and hit my head on a rock, passing out. I had this amazing dream though, of a place called Wonderland. I woke up a few hours later in the hospital, finding that the fabulous place I visited was just a dream.
Another memory was going in a boat ride with my sister, my best mates Edith Canon, and my uncle Dodgson. They always wanted me to tell stories as we took little trips in uncles boat. Their favorite one I told them was of a Duck, a Dodo, a Lorry, and an Eaglet. Hm..I never did tell them that I based those characters off of them. Oh well, we had a jolly good time.
Another memory I had was off when I was only seven. I was always bad at stealing and one time when I was stealing a few cookies, my dad caught me. He said I was 'grinning like a Cheshire cat'. Mum agreed. After that, I was sure to put my hand over my moth whenever sneaking cookies before supper though, they caught me every time.
